# Whirl MCP and API

> Connect your AI assistant to Whirl over MCP, or build on Whirl with the API.

With the MCP server or the API you can:

* List, search and update tasks, and read their activity and messages
* Give an agent a task and follow its runs
* Approve, reject or edit the actions agents propose
* Answer agent questions and complete human tasks
* Create, rename and archive workspaces
* Edit agent instructions and the company handbook
* Manage knowledge sources, reminders and scheduled tasks

Every call runs as the Whirl user who connected the app, with that user's permissions.

## Endpoints

| - | - |
| MCP server | `https://api.whirl.sh/mcp` |
| API | `https://api.whirl.sh/api/v1` |

Use MCP to connect an AI assistant, which can then find and call Whirl's tools itself. Use the API from your own app or scripts. Both sign in with OAuth.

## Before you start

1. Connect with [OAuth](/authentication).
2. Ask for only the [scopes](/permissions) you need.
3. Try [read-only calls](/quickstart) in a workspace you own first.
4. Writes are real. Approving an action can send an email or update another app, and submitting a task starts an agent. See [tasks and approvals](/workflows).

## Full reference

The [MCP tool reference](/tool-reference) and [API reference](/api/reference) list every operation.
